7.62x25 Pistol bolt
This tutorial will guide you through the bolt modifications. Most
of the work is basic machining, the critical part is getting the proper
firing pin protrusion. If the pin is to shallow you will get misfires, if it
is to deep you will get punctured primers, resulting in firing pin and
firing pin bushing damage.
I had 10 bolts machined and the hardness varied from soft to
rock hard, so you may encounter some difficulty getting it done.
The first step is to remove the cocking handle. Locate the rivet holding
it on and drill it out. The handle can then be driven out of it's slot.
Next remove the extractor by pushing back on the plunger and lifting it
out. When the extractor and plunger are out the firing pin can be removed.
Next grind or mill off the FA sear face as shown in the photo, the
modified bolt is on the bottom
Next turn the bolt body to a diameter of 1.105" this dimension is not to
critical as long as the bolt moves freely in the receiver tube
Drill a 3/8" hole in the rear of the bolt about 1 1/4" deep, the depth is
not to critical as it will open up into the milled hammer pocket.
