MG 42 bolt conversion 2
Step 2: Welding on the bolt carrier extension
Us a piece of 3/8" all thread and a couple of nuts and washers to hold the extension
in position and weld it in place. Next weld the feed stud in place. When it is welded on,
you can drill a couple of 5/8" holes in the extension to make a window to be able to see
the hammer. This is a aid to troubleshoot if you have ignition problems.
Next weld on a piece of 1/8" x 3/8" flat stock for the retracting stud. The position will
vary depending on the type of receiver you are using.  For a Wise Lite receiver it will be
further out to the right side. If you are TIG welding you only need to do one side if you
do a good deep penetrating weld.
The stud is over sized and will need to be trimmed to fit between the receiver and
recuperator. Leave a slight angle on the front to keep the retracting handle from
coming off. Also make sure the stud is not to far forward to keep the bolt from closing
fully.
Now the bolt is ready to be assembled and installed. You can use
either the flat or spoon shaped ejector extension. Install the V2.0 insert with
the original firing pin into the bolt carrier and install the bolt head. With the
bolt in the closed / locked position the firing pin should be about 1/16" below
the face of the bolt. If it is to far up grind a little off the base of the pin.
The V2.0 insert rear screw is locktited in place, I don't recommend trying
to disassemble it. To maintain it just put in a couple of drops of oil.
