MG 42 Cam section build 4
The first step will be to scribe a center line on the top and bottom. I am
using a height gage and surface plate, but you can use a square and
scribe.
Once you have located the center on the top and bottom you can
download the templates below. There is a scale on the drawings to make
sure they are to scale. The files are in .dfx format, you can download a
free reader here:
Click on the link, save the file and open it with the viewer.
It would be best to wait to cut the slots until the cam section is welded
on to the front section, you will be able to more accurately locate the slots.
                   Welding on the cam section
The first step is to determine the amount to be trimmed or filled from
the shroud, then trim and square the end of the shroud section removing
all the slag and bunt metal.  It is a good idea to blast the parts before
welding to get nice clean welds.
Since I don't have a complete rear section I took some measurements
from the front, then scribed the sections where they needed to be cut.
