MG 42 Cam section build 5
The sections are then cut and ground square and all burrs removed.
The sections are clamped and aligned one side at a time, then tack
welded and checked for alignment.
Several tack welds are done, since there is no gap and the parts are
both square they went together easily. Now you can weld the sides one at
a time on opposing sides.
Once all 4 sides were welded I made fillers out of 1/2" x 1" x .065
rectangular tubing to extend the raised portions on the shroud by the bbl
gate.
These were welded in place and the inside filled with weld to blend
them into the receiver. After the rear is welded on the length of these can
be determined and they can be cut off and finish welded and ground.
Here you have the finished product ready for the rest of the rear to be
welded on. Then the slots for the feed tray and ejection port can be
machined.
