FAL L1A1 Build 4
Wrap the receiver with electrical tape and trim off any excess, then
install and tighten the receiver wrench.
Install the barrel wrench on the barrel, tighten it securely. Mark the
barrel flange and breech face with black magic marker, then screw the
barrel into the receiver and it should hand tighten to the 11 o'clock
position, If not carefully file the face of the barrel flange until it does. Be
sure to check that the breech face is not touching the inside of the
receiver. If it is it will also need to be trimmed.
If the barrel fit tighten it down to the vertical position, there are several
ways to check it. Some barrels have an index mark, you can mark the
bottom center of the receiver and use this to align the sights or use the
sights themselves. You can also make a block to fit the receiver with a 12"
vertical rod centered in it, use another rod in the front sight post to check
alignment.
Once the barrel is installed you are ready to set the headspace.
Install the cocking handle. Remove the firing pin and extractor from the
bolt and clean the bolt face and chamber. Insert the go gage in the
chamber and install the bolt and close it.
