Riveting Tutorial
Here we go, this is where it all comes together, the money shot so to
speak. Let me say this about riveting, if you've not done it before, please try
to practice before you start on this gun. MSC has the same size rivets as
used in this build, get a pound and drill some 1/8in holes in some scrap and
have at it. Try different heights of rivet sticking out of the hole to get the
look you want, practice, a bunch. Use a 4oz ball peen hammer, good
quality Craftsman is what I used on my gun. Bigger is not better here.
You're going to need some type of bucking bar and a bench block, the
receiver box is so very close in size to the 1919 Browning that most 1919
rivet bucks will work as is or with just a little tweaking. The bench block in
the following photos is the coolest block I've found, it's a chunk of 1018
about 4 X 4 X 6. I milled a step and a recess in it and it works great. The
threaded, hardened stud along with the jack screw I made bucks MG 42 rail
rivets, the step bucks 1919 top plate rear rivets. It also does Browning .50
cal trunion rivets, Colt 1928 bottom plate and top plate rear rivets, Vickers
trunion rivets and a few more I can't remember right now. Here's some
photos.
