Riveting Tutorial 4
At this point there are several ways to go, I was looking to build a strong,
watertight, serviceable gun. I was not looking to build a museum quality
piece, if it passes the 3 foot test and shoots all day long, that's what I want.
You can choose to use the furnished 8X32 low flat head screws or the
furnished closed end pop rivets. If you use the pop rivets, you'll have to finish
them off with flat black paint or Lauer's stuff or the like. With the pop rivets or
the screws, use LocTite to set and seal them up forever. I used a sharp
3/16th drill bit to bump or chamfer the holes after I threaded them to insure
the head would seat flush. Now we are only talking about the rivet holes
that go into the wet area of the trunion here, regular rivets are used
everywhere else.
I may have gotten a little ahead of things here so lets get back on
track. Next photo shows where to stop riveting for now, if you're going for
the easy way, at this point you'll Parkerize the box now.
This is the good stuff, this stuff works. After you've Parked the box,
use a Dremmel cutoff wheel to dress or clean the trunion and a sanding
drum to clean the matching areas on the side plates. Move fast, plan
how to set this up and mock it up to be sure. I used two 1/8th rods
and the front cover latch to get it right.
