UK 59 Build Tutorial 2
The next step was to make a welding jig to hold the receiver sections
aligned for welding. I machined a 7" piece of 1/2" steel bar stock to fit in the
carrier grooves and a 1/4" backer plate for it. The backer plate is held on
with 1/4"-20 screws and has 2 notches to clear the projection on the bottom
of the receiver so it can be moved as the receiver sections are added. I
prefer to do a reweld like this and fit the carrier as I go. It is a lot easier to fit
it a section at a time, it makes working inside the receiver a lot easier.
Now the receiver sections need to be prepped by removing all the slag
and burnt metal from the cuts.

I machined a 3/8" slot in the front of the receiver about 1 1/2" long and
welded in a filler. I beveled the sides and did a deep 100% penetrating
weld to make it non removable. Then I located the area for the bolt denial
pins and welded them in as shown in the second photo. These
modifications need to be done before starting to weld up the sections.
The next step was to fit the parts together to get some measurements
and see how much gap needed to be filled. The receiver sections that
came with the kit are from at least 2 different guns.  I fitted the parts to the
jig to get some basic measurements to make the filler sections.
