MG 42 Receiver Tutorial 15
Now we can locate and weld on the front grip retaining ears, open the holes with a
6mm drill and put one of the ears at the front of the grip and tack weld it in place. Now from
this spot the hole in the grip and drill through with the 6 mm drill. Install the grip back in the
gun and pin the grip through the ears and tack the second one in place. Check the fit then
finish welding them.
Grind the welds and install the grip it should fit tight with no play or wobble. This is
important as no hammer force is lost due to play in the grip.
The final step before testing is to make sure the retracting handle clears the hammer,
fit it as necessary for smooth operation. The retracting handle is painted red so you can
see the clearance needed.
Basically the build is finished at this point and almost ready to test fire. Disassemble
all the parts and remove any dirt debris from inside the receiver and clean and lubricate
all the parts as you reassemble them. Cycle the gun and if it is not smooth find and fix the
problems. Make up some dummy rounds and test for proper feed and ejection. Once it all
looks good it is ready to test fire.
After all the bugs are worked out you can do the finish. If you want to parkerize it
