MG 42 Receiver Tutorial 4
Now we will prep the rails, the rails have a step in them to clear the feed tray portion of the
receiver. This must go to the top on both sides. You can see the indent in the top photo it is outlined in
red on the bottom one. With a straight edge check your rails for straightness and get out any bends.
Also remove any dings or burrs from the edges with a file and run a file down the back side so they will
sit flat in the receiver.
The tabs on the rails fit into the D shaped cutouts on the receiver, you may need to square the
corners of the hole or break the corners of the tabs for them to sit flat. Now install the rails into the
receiver with some machine screws with the heads inside.
Check to see that the rails are installed straight, the recuperator should be tight against the
bottom of the receiver for the left rail to fit properly. The tabs inside the rails should line up with the
tabs in the cam piece as shown in the lower 2 photos.
Clean up your bolt and grind off the retracting and sear lugs from the bottom, this will allow the bolt
to be used to check the rail fit.
