| This project will be building a fitted wood case for a Para FAL and 6 mags. |
| The first step is to figure out the layout of the contents then get some basic measurements. The lumber being used is called craft lumber and I get it at Lowes. It comes in pine and a few other woods. There is a selection of widths and thicknesses. I use 3/8" thick for the frame and 1/2" for the gun support and handle retainers, and 1/4" x 1" for the bottom skids and hinge protectors / top stop. The top and bottom is either door skin or 1/4" hardwood plywood. Tools and materials Obviously more is better but all you really need is: 1. a miter box and back saw 2. a scroll saw 3. box cutter 4. needle nose pliers 5. hammer 6. square 7. tape measure 8. wood glue 9. wire brads, 5/8", 3/4" and 1" 10. sanding block 11. hinges and latches 12. 3/8" manila rope 13. assd lumber. 4- 1 1/2" x 36" x 3/8" 4- 2 1/2" x 36" x 3/8" 1- 1 1/2" x 12" x 1/2" 1- 1 1/2" x 48" x 1/4" 1- 3/8" x 3/8" x 36" square dowel 1- 2' x 4' x 1/4" plywood or door skin The interior dimensions of the box will be 4" x 10" x 29" |
